America is a gerontocracy.
When did political office in the United States become a parody of itself? One need look no further than the 2020 Presidential elections to understand what I am talking about. It is a sideshow. Send in the clowns.
I am embarrassed by American politics. It does not seem to be too much to ask to have a competent adult on the ballot. I would like to see one who is reasonably likely to be fully continent of all bodily fluids. It would be nice if I could be certain he would not need coaching to draw a clock. No ifs, ands, or buts. A pulse and the ability to read a teleprompter is just too low of a bar for leader of the Free World.
America is a corruptocracy.
When did political office in the United States become an opportunity to gain wealth and a lifetime of power? It is all about who you know, and who donated to whom, and that is how the power is distributed. Who cares about “constituents” anyway?
I feel as though America is on track to become just another banana republic, owned by rich cronies and political dynasties. The average cost to win a seat in the US House of Representatives is anywhere from 1.1 million to 6.5 million dollars. How can an honest citizen afford that kind of money? (Hint: we can’t). Even those of us who are well off and have friends who are well off cannot begin to raise that kind of cash. That is why big donors and dark money are so important. It is a recipe for corruption.
America is an oligarchy of the extremely wealthy.
When did winning a political office in the United States become dependent on $400 million dollars worth of cash from an uber wealthy donor? And why is that not some kind of shameful secret? The oligarchs no longer try to keep their power and influence hidden.
When 6 mega corporations own over 90% of our communication and information infrastructure, it seems futile to even try to make sense of the nation’s political universe. We will see what they want us to see. Whatever happened to trust busting? Isn’t diversity in information sources important? Apparently not. Because America is just a vehicle for global financial interests at this point.
What do we need?
We need a “Home for Elderly Politicians.”
When do we need it?
NOW! Okay, we need it a few years ago, but it is too late for that.
We need a third party. There is change in the air. Can you feel it? There are movements for third party candidacies, for regular people who are willing to put themselves out there to risk their lives, fortunes, and sacred honor. There is a lot of energy building for change. We have the Independent Party, the Libertarian Party, The Forward Party, and all of these parties are 100% committed to reforming the process. All of these parties are in favor of term limits, campaign finance reform, ranked choice voting, election integrity, voter access, an end to gerrymandering, and an end to dark money. These are the things that have caused the sideshow. These are the policies that have allowed career politicians to age into calcified power, corruption, and cronyism.
The corrupt party machines of the 20th Centuries are dinosaurs. They are ancient, slow, lumbering anachronisms that are leading the way to national extinction. We need to turn it around. We must choose third party candidates who are committed to reform. It is the only way to take our power back. We the people deserve representation!
At this time, around half of registered voters do not identify with either major party. If all of these individuals chose to vote third party, all the third party candidates would win in landslides all across the nation! But right now, people are complacent. They are hooked into the wedge issues and the memes. They still believe that a third party is nothing but a spoiler. That, my friends, is not true. Vote third party, while you still can. Either that, or enjoy the clown show.
